About the Author

Kevin J. Anderson has published 165 books, 56 of which have been national or international bestsellers. He has written numerous novels in the Star Wars, X-Files, and DC Comics universes, as well as unique steampunk fantasy novels Clockwork Angels and Clockwork Lives, written with legendary rock drummer Neil Peart, based on the concept album by the band Rush. His original works include the Saga of Seven Suns series, the Terra Incognita fantasy trilogy, the Saga of Shadows trilogy, and his humorous horror series featuring Dan Shamble, Zombie PI. He has edited numerous anthologies, written comics and games, and the lyrics to two rock CDs. Anderson and his wife Rebecca Moesta are the publishers of WordFire Press. Dr. J. Douglas Beason is the author of fourteen books, eight with collaborator Kevin J. Anderson, including Ignition and Ill Wind, as well as two non-fiction books. This superior action-sf novel is a variation upon a venerable theme: an alien artifact signaling the advent of invasion. The artifact is involved in a fatal accident at a near-future base on the moon. The incident's repercussions percolate up the chain of command, provoking questions and responses from progressively higher levels. Anderson and Beason make the political and technological extrapolation fairly straightforward, and in fact this is the kind of sf novel whose appeal should overlap with that of the technothriller, sort of a Tom-Clancy-meets-space-advocacy effort. However labeled, it is a credit to its authors and should find substantial readership.
