Rodney A. White, M.D. is Chief of Vascular Surgery, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, California and Associate Professor of Surgery, UCLA School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery with Special Qualifications for General Vascular Surgery and by the American Board of Laser Surgery., Dr. White graduated in 1970 from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Zoology and obtained his M.D. degree (cum laude, Alpha Omega Alpha) in 1974 from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse., Dr. White is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society for Vascular Surgery, International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery-North American Chapter, The Society of University Surgeons, American Heart Association, Society for Critical Care Medicine, Association for Academic Surgery, Western Vascular Society, Academy of Surgical Research, Pacific Coast Surgical Society, Society for Biomaterials, American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, American College of Angiology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the New York Academy of Sciences., Dr. White's research interests include the development and evaluation of artificial implant materials, and laboratory and clinical investigation in peripheral vascular surgery. He is a co-inventor of the replamineform technology for fabricating microporous biomaterials, including Interpore International's hydroxyapatite and small diameter vascular prostheses. Dr. White's current research interest also include the use of lasers in medicine and surgery, particularly for angioplasty and for blood vessel anastomotic fusion. He is also actively investigating other interventional cardiovascular devices including angioscopy and other angioplasty guidance methods. He is the recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association and several corporations., Dr. White is the author of approximately 100 papers and book chapters and is co-editor of two other books, Lasers in Cardiovascular Disease and Angioscopy: Peripheral Vascular and Coronary Applications.
