Description: This atlas of adolescent dermatology is a succinct overview of conditions that may be seen but are not limited to adolescents. A representative clinical photo is accompanied by a brief discussion of pertinent skin findings, diagnosis, appropriate laboratory evaluation, and treatment. The photographs are of variable quality and do not always provide the necessary detail for making a firm diagnosis.
Purpose: The purpose is to serve as a quick reference for primary care providers encountering skin conditions in teens.
Audience: The audience is primary care physicians and affiliated healthcare providers.
Features: The book presents various skin conditions that can present in adolescents but are not exclusively seen in adolescents in an efficient, accessible manner. Treatment options do not include specific recommendations of how to apply medications or doses for oral medications. Summaries of epidemiology, pathology, diagnosis, presentation, and treatments are brief, consisting of a few sentences highlighting the main points. There are many excellent pediatric references that combine color atlas format with succinct and more detailed information than this book.
Assessment: If you wish to confirm that you are on the right track, perhaps this atlas would appeal to you. I prefer more detailed clinical photos and more information.
