Description: This is an atlas with many high quality images. It is a well-organized and concise atlas of hematology.
Purpose: The purpose of this text is to be a "scope-side" atlas. This will be a useful addition to laboratories in general veterinary practices, and the authors met the objectives.
Audience: This book was written for veterinary students, general practitioners, veterinary technicians, and veterinary residents. It is likely this text will be most applicable to clinical pathology residents but could also be useful for oncology and internal medicine residents as well. The authors are experts in their field.
Features: The text covers general hematology. The goal is to provide representative images of all components of the peripheral blood smears. The images are of high quality, and this is the highpoint of the text. Many examples of common red cell morphology and white blood cells are included. The text is thorough and provides high quality examples of artifacts, organisms, and uncommon diseases such as Chediak Higashi syndrome. As a book to be used by the microscope, the spiral binding is a nice touch; however, a hard cover would be nice because if it is a well-used atlas, the cover will likely be easily damaged.
Assessment: This will be a useful atlas in general practice. The images are excellent, and the high number of images is important in any hematology text.
