This is an atlas of multiple examples comprising nearly all aspects of nuclear medicine. The purpose is to provide a supplement to existing textbooks as well as to provide an overview of the capabilities and limitations of nuclear medicine. These are worthy objectives, as atlases showing many examples are always helpful in daily practice, and the book does meet the author's objectives. The author states that the book is for physicians, students, and other interested readers. I feel this book would be most appropriate for medical students and radiology residents, but would like to have more comprehensive annotations to maximize the value. The greatest value of the book lies in the numerous examples. However, the annotations for pictures are incomplete or difficult to understand. The book covers nearly all aspects of nuclear medicine, but many examples do not seem to be the standard or routine exams performed in the U.S. It is unclear if difficulty in translation led to unclear annotations. Colored figures and complete appendixes are present, but poor explanations of figures limit their usefulness. Other shortcomings include the inconvenience of having summary paragraphs discussing epidemiology and pathology located several pages away from the images. There is also a lack of arrows on the images that would help the inexperienced reader, and little if any detail on dose or type of radiotracer used. Although this book presents many cases in nice atlas format, the annotations are incomplete (with lack of dose and type of radiopharmaceutical), and many figures are not clear in their pathology without arrows. Some examples show techniques not employed in the U.S., and contribute to theconfusion as they are not explained fully. For these reasons the book could cause confusion and be ineffective to all but the most experienced physicians.
