Bèl Poul ak Pentad Pou Vann - Beautiful Chickens and Guinea Fowls for Sale
A Haitian peddler was tired of going up and down the streets peddling her goods. She decided to rest under a mango tree only to fall into a 2-hour sleep. When she woke up, she did not see any of her chickens and guinea fowls in the basket. She looked everywhere and could not find her goods. The peddler looked up and saw 4 eagles cleaning their beaks. What will the peddler tell her husband and children when she returned home? Can she tell them she was resting when her goods were stolen? What did the eagles do with all those chickens and guinea fowls?

About the Author

'Bèl Poul ak Pentad Pou Vann - Beautiful Chickens and Guinea Fowls for Sale' is a tribute to Madan De, the author's late mother. Madan De was a well-known peddler and later Madan Sara in the whole town. Author Joseph J. Charles wanted to immortalize his mother who paid for his education and sent him to summer school so he could be ahead of all other students. Madan De may have lost some of her goods, but she managed to earn enough money to pay her bills and meet her family's needs. In this story, Ms. Semafi replaces Madan De who never stopped working. She woke up early in the morning to prepare her merchandise for the day. Madan De was not afraid of working hard. Carrying her basket on top of her head on a wreath or troket, she firmly walked to the market and back home. Using lamp wicks, she had enough light to complete her work under the front porch of her home before her children woke up. To catch the bus early in the morning to go to the capital, Port-au-Prince, Boss De often accompanied her to the bus station.
RIP, Madan De and Boss De!
Your 1st son, Joseph Jony Charles.
