Overview

This manual will equip a teacher (mentor) to take a new or young Christian through a series of Do It Yourself sessions designed to greatly enhance spiritual growth. There are 42 lessons which systematically take students along a growth path designed to teach the student about God, the church, core Christian doctrine and how to become a mentor. Each lesson has two parts: the first part is the instructions for the teacher and the second part is the student worksheet with the answers. Each week the teacher provides his student with the appropriate worksheet, which has exercises and blanks that the student works on during the week under the oversight of the teacher who motivates the student and helps him stay on track. The teacher and student meet at the end of the week to discuss the answers and to talk about the lesson. The student worksheets without answers are available as a free download at the author’s website.

This flexible discipleship course is designed to follow one’s salvation. After evangelism, three units compose the course. The Initial Growth unit has 12 sessions which are designed to help the new Christian to know and appreciate God, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and the church. The next unit in the course is Church Orientation and Edification, which has 17 sessions and takes the young believer through core Christian doctrine. The final unit is called Growth to Maturity, which has 13 sessions and is designed to cause the student to become a mentor. The basic foundation and intent of this discipleship course is implementation of 2 Timothy 2:2, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
