This introductory course is designed for complete beginners. Learning Malagasy provides a direct connection to the unique history and culture of Madagascar. As the primary language of the island, Learning Malagasy allows you to engage with the local communities and their traditions. Originating from the Southeast Barito languages of Borneo, Malagasy reflects the island's intriguing history of migration and exchanges across the Indian Ocean.
This beginner's course is structured into five sessions, specifically designed to assist you in achieving a basic proficiency level (A1) on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The focus is primarily on pronunciation and comprehension, equipping you with the foundational skills needed to start conversing in Malagasy. Through a series of structured lessons, you will not only learn how to correctly articulate words but also how to understand them within the context of everyday conversations. The focus throughout is on common words, phrases and expressions that can be put to daily use.
