About the Author

Marceline is a teenage synesthete.
Upon awakening from a dream, she pulls aside her journal and 36 alcohol artists’ markers. Drawings are then produced by analyzing the sounds, sights, and emotions of the dreams and their synesthetic relationships, translated into the spaces between the figures, their colors, and shapes drawn. Her poems are then composed by reading back through these illustrations and writing in one sitting everything perceived. Edits are made later.

Synesthesia, Marcie says, has allowed her to become an artist. She dabbles in painting, music composition, street photography, short story writing, and poetry, and it has given her a love of mathematics and linguistics as those interdisciplinary relationships also spark synesthetic reactions. She clarifies that this condition improves her quality of life and that she has had these experiences for as long as she can remember.

A future release by Luz will include the dream journal entries and information about which pieces are related.
