Overview

After feeling deceived, hurt, and powerless, Carmen Jones had to muster all her physical and mental strength to crawl out of the constant fear she felt. As the oldest of five, she was forced to take on responsibilities not meant for a child. Not being able to understand the rapidly changing world around her made her feel isolated and hopeless, but her determination to be happy and safe never faltered.

Beaten Never Broken focuses on the obstacles that Carmen Jones had to face in her younger years. From being put in an abusive foster home to being hurt by those she loved and trusted, Carmen felt like she was losing sight of who she truly was. In her darkest moments, she found the power of God and looked toward Him to find the light. Today, she thanks Him for giving her the strength to persevere.

While thinking over her past experiences, Carmen now understands that her path to healing and forgiveness was never meant to be an easy one. She knows that each battle she was faced with made her the warrior she is today. Through her book, she hopes readers will recognize that she is not a victim but rather a victor who has overcome adversity and emerged triumphant.

As a child, Carmen Jones grew up in the Winthrop Projects in New Rochelle, New York. She was surrounded by drugs, poverty, and immense physical and emotional pain. Throughout her adulthood, she realized how she could transform her pain into something positive, igniting the spark for Beaten Never Broken. By sharing her story, she hopes to help others who struggled during their childhood realize that growth comes out of enduring every painful experience.
