Inspiration Behind the Story

When I first began the story, I started with the simple idea,
a mother who is the nation's top black ballerina. When she
is attacked by a vicious deranged woman who does a hit
and run, she becomes paralyzed and lose her ability to do
what she loves most, dance.

With her daughter being her successor, she now
turns to destroy her daughter's own dream of becoming
the world's greatest hip-hop ballerina. But then, as always
when I write, I start one way and evolve.

I thought about my life not only as a writer, but as a
student of this world. I pondered on the American Dream
and what we as citizens of America have been told about
pursuing The Dream. I looked at all the people in the
world around me and observed not just for the story, but
the truth be told, I have been observing for life as a child.

My questions began to boil. Why do some seem to get
lucky breaks and others don't? Why do some work hard
and struggle all their life, while others get to work doing
what they love?

Why do some steal and cheat their way to the top,
while others work and work and work an honest pay to
only to end up destitute, broke and paying bills all their
life? Then they wake up miserable to do it all over again.
Why don't they just quit and go for it?
Why do some seem to have protected lives as children,
while others are so talented and gifted, yet thrown to the
wind to be lost, therefore knocking all competition?
Why do some claim that God blesses them all the
time, yet have no character in the earth, will lie, cheat and
steal at the drop of a dime? While others pray, work hard
honestly and get nowhere? Why God?

Is this American Dream thing true? Or did they leave
out other factors operating in humanity? Factors like our
picking and choosing system in America.

Example, who goes to what school, who gets accepted
into what click, or a prestigious group, and who gets left
out?

What about the witches, yes actual witches that come
out and attack you and your life from trying to progress
and advance? These witches can come in the form of cops,
jealous everyday people, or people on top afraid you will
somehow diminish their light if you shine.
As I looked at my own life and the lives of many human beings around me, I pondered on the American
Dream.

So, it was then that this story began to evolve. So, I
created a world of dance. Because dance is universal. I
added hip-hop as a niche to show how the world has
evolved from the classical to the present, and because it's
also a universal language to our youth not only in America,
but abroad.

It's the language that many youths understand and
communicate today. When you were reading, you entered
the world of Beautifully Broken Ballerinas, a dreamer's
story.
