About the Author

Valerie is an artist from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where she studied at the School of Art & Design, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She works from her home studio in Ontario, Canada. Valerie illustrates the children's picture books that she creates with her husband, Larry Lalonde. The couple’s previous books include Escape from the Mad Man (2019) and Appreciation Day! (2020). Bennett the Runaway Duck is their third collaboration.

Larry is a television writer and producer from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His credits include the popular Canadian TV series Murdoch Mysteries and The Pinkertons, as well as series for the Syfy Network, Netflix, CBS, NBC and the CTV Network in Canada.


Valerie Elmhirst and Larry Lalonde met in kindergarten in Montreal. They married fifty-four years later. By then, they had many stories to tell. Valerie is an artist. Larry is a writer. It made sense to combine their talents to tell their stories. They founded Elmhirst Lalonde Publishing in 2019. Their published works include Escape from the Mad Man, Appreciation Day! and Bennett the Runaway Duck. They are busy preparing their next book.
