Overview

Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique is a key work in the understanding of romanticism, programme music, and the development of the orchestra, post-Beethoven. Julian Rushton is Emeritus Professor, School of Music, University of Leeds. His publications include The Musical Language of Berlioz (1983), and as editor, The Cambridge Berlioz Encyclopedia (2018).
