Overview

Betsy, the Cross-Beak Chicken, is a charming, true story of a special needs chicken who fulfills her role as a productive member of her flock. Betsy's crooked beak makes it hard to take care of herself, but with some adjustments, she grows strong and healthy, and accomplished her important job, just like the rest of her flock. Along the way, Betsy encounters humorous and touching adventures that will allow readers to reflect on what it means to navigate a physical challenge. Betsy's success shows that her unusual beak will not hold her back and that she enjoys a happy and productive life in the chicken yard.

About the Author

Rina S. Gibbons started her career as an intelligence officer, living in San Francisco, California. Eventually, her family took precedence, and she reared her children fulltime, while pursuing a career as a private investigator, small business owner, early-childhood teacher and tireless school volunteer. Once her children left home, Ms. Gibbons and her husband moved to a small farm in Sonoma, California where she raised chickens, ducks, and sheep. Her true experiences with a handicapped chicken led to the sweet and heartwarming story about Betsy, the Cross-Beaked Chicken. Ms. Gibbons currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, John, a Brussels Griffon named Gatsby, and Clara the Great Pyrenees.
