Purpose: It is intended to be used as a study guide or revision aid and highlights the major topics associated with physiological psychology. As such, this book cannot and is not intended to replace the full breadth of a traditional physiological course. Ultimately, this is an excellent supplement and refresher for the busy undergraduate or graduate student. The objectives set forth by the authors are met.
Audience: This book will be best served by those within the field of psychology, notably undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, professors of psychology, like myself, will find this book to be a quick reference and an occasional refresher or springboard for research. The authors bring with them a number of years of teaching physiological psychology, and it clearly shows.
Features: The major topics of physiological psychology are presented in text form with superbly detailed illustrations and key notes sections. Notable sections include the central and peripheral nervous systems, psychopharmacology, the senses, movement, and psychopathology. Of note, the psychopathology section is very well written and impressive. The only shortcoming is that I didn't have this resource when I was in graduate school.
Assessment: Pound for pound, one of the finer supplementary books available today. Well-written, easy-to-use, and a strong resource for students. Highly recommended!
