Gr 3-6-This eye-catching volume is divided into four sections, each addressing one of the major groups of raptors: eagles, falcons, owls, and vultures. The chapters, which have color-coded pages for quick reference, are similarly organized, making for easier reading, and deal with all aspects of the birds' life cycles and habits. Plentiful, high-quality photographs, some of which span two pages, and clear illustrations elucidate the narrative. "Funfacts" that highlight interesting details about the birds are scattered throughout. The authors are adept at incorporating widely known facts with more obscure, trivialike tidbits. The text's lively and conversational tone will appeal equally to students doing research and budding naturalists. The book is concise enough for younger readers while containing enough depth to provide older ones with a solid basis for reports.
