One wrong blink sparked a global outbreak of plague that mutated humans into brutal, conscienceless killers called Revenants. Dubbed the Father of the Apocalypse, Ren Leonard is a legend, a myth, the bringer of destruction upon humanity's head. A gatherer for the Stronghold, a small pocket of uninfected holed up in an old sports arena, Mackenzie Bright Runner is aware that supplies are dwindling. Dragging along her partner Bon for safety, she appeals to Leonard for help in turning the tide against the Revenants, only to be refused with a cryptic remark: Existence is futile. Branded traitors to their settlement, Bon is executed and Mackenzie is exiled.
