Editorial Reviews

OCTOBER 2010 - AudioFile

In Barrett’s second entry in her Booktown series, the voice of one character is described as “oozing with sweetness. ” Indeed, the syrup fairly drips as Cassandra Campbell voices one of the residents of Stoneham, a New Hampshire town known for its specialty bookstores. A famous author with a lackluster personality is murdered in the mystery bookshop “Haven't Got a Clue.” As owner Tricia Miles tries to solve the crime, Campbell endows each of the mostly female suspects and informants with singular personalities—from Tricia’s overbearing sister to the late author’s petulant assistant. Except for one Texas transplant, Campbell attempts no regional accents, but the catty, arch, cheerful, and toothless (after one character is assaulted) voices make this cozy a pleasure.
