About the Author

Carol Vance was the district attorney of Harris County from 1966-1979. He was only 32 when he first won the office.

He tried twenty jury cases as DA, unusual for a DA of a jurisdiction the size of Harris County.

He served as the president of the National District Attorneys Association and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Vance also helped rewrite the Texas Penal Code and served as chairman of the board of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

After leaving the DA’s office he had a successful career as a partner in the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm.

In his retirement he is very involved in prison ministry, including working with prisoners at the nation’s first faith-based prison, the Carol S. Vance Unit in Sugar Land.

He and his wife Carolyn have five children and 14 grandkids.

“Boomtown DA” is the story of his years in the DA’s office.
