STARRED REVIEW! This review covers Marvelous Mammals and Brilliant Birds, two books that are part of a series entitled Extreme Animals. Both books are 32 pages in length and contain truly exceptional photographs of animals from various parts of the world. Each animal’s exceptional anatomy, physiology or behavior is illustrated. While most of the mammals and some of the birds are probably familiar to elementary school students, and the language is appropriate, some of the more exotic mammals and birds are not, and probably have not been encountered. It therefore would have been useful to somehow indicate the continent or country of origin of some of them, such as the platypus or pangolin, or albatross or kakapo. A glossary in each book is also useful for language acquisition.
