Overview

The eyes of the prophet peered stringently into the unseeing eyes of the young woman, and he saw a disturbing barrier to her understanding. “Close your eyes, lassie, and remain perfectly still.”
Sophie began to object, but as the prophet’s hands came closer to her face, she flinched and automatically closed her eyes, wondering what he was about to do. When she heard him telling her to open her eyes again, he was holding two large and disgusting opaque scales... one in each hand.
“W..what are they?” Sophie eyed the scales in revulsion, knowing they had been covering her eyes.
“Your final barrier to understanding, lassie. Depending on how deeply you love the world, determines how thick your eye scales are to what God is actually doing.”
