About the Author

Born and educated in Brocton, Edward T. Kurtz Sr. is the village historian. He formerly served as the Portland town historian and published two other books about the area. All of the photographs in this book are from private collections: that of his late father, historian Elias T. Kurtz; his own; and that of his colleague Kirk Bennett. Brocton and Portland is his way of sharing with the public these treasured images and his vast knowledge of the past.
