Purpose: The purpose is to provide a comprehensive and state-of-the-art presentation of cancer rehabilitation and its evolving principles. This is sorely needed as there is no book that addresses this topic in such a comprehensive manner. Prior attempts have been mainly limited to series of articles in peer-reviewed journals. The book clearly meets its objectives and will serve as a seminal textbook on this topic.
Audience: It is mainly targeted at physiatry practitioners with moderate experience with cancer rehabilitation, but it can serve beginning practitioners as well. Portions also may be useful for resident training.
Features: The book uses several methods of topic organization, including affected organ system, symptom management, and treatment approach. As a result, there is some overlap of content in several sections. On the other hand, this overlap allows individual chapters to stand alone as opposed to forcing readers to go searching through several different sections of the book to locate relevant information. The key points in each chapter are a helpful review of the material. The one shortcoming is the lack of an overview chapter to help readers organize the broad and diverse nature of cancer rehabilitation.
