Overview

Whether you're a grizzled veteran of backyard chick farming, a novice or someone who has never considered raising chickens in your backyard or anywhere else, this book is for you. I never considered raising chickens until my wife talked me into it. A decision I suspect she deeply regrets. I'm not sure how many chickens I have. Each night when they are roosting, I tried counting them, but the number keeps changing. When it goes down, I figure its either predators or they ran off to make chicken music videos in Hollywood. When the number goes up I figure whoever ran off is back. Either that or I'm just bad at counting. Fortunately, you don't have to be a math wiz to raise chickens. If you're considering raising a few chickens I have included in this book the bare-bones basics. I don't consider myself an expert, but if I tried to put down everything I know then this book would be less entertaining. Besides, nobody knows everything about chickens. Besides, besides, nobody likes a know-it-all. With chickens as with most things, you can learn by doing. One's reach should exceed your grasp, or what else is the internet for?

About the Author

David Boyett lives in Williams Junction Arkansas with his wife Virginia. He works full-time looking after his chickens, dogs, and cats but mostly chickens. He is the founder and owner of D. V. B. Nonprofit Chicken Ranch, which despite its name is not a 501 (c) (3) charity. It’s just he hasn’t made a profit since 2006 and is darn proud of it. He does not think of his as just animals, nor does he think of them as pets or his babies. They are regarded as employees and as such they are afforded the rights the same as any working person. The hens organized themselves into a union. All hens as well as roosters are members of the Backyard Chicken Laborers Union Local # 1.
