Overview

Cantante is a small frog who can't sing like the other frogs in Puerto Rico's forest. He goes on a big adventure to find his own song. He talks to the babbling brook, dances with bamboo, chats with colorful parrots, and watches bright fireflies. Each friend helps him in different ways. In the end, with help from a wise old frog, Cantante finds his special song. It's different but very beautiful. He sings every night, making the forest happy with his unique voice. Cantante's story shows us that everyone's voice is special and important.

About the Author

Richard McSorley, a half Puerto Rican author, carries a unique blend of cultural heritage and aspiration. Not raised with Spanish, his linguistic journey echoes the narrative of the frog in his book—a symbol of his desire to connect more deeply with his roots. Richard's writings often explore themes of identity, language, and belonging, capturing the nuances of being caught between two worlds. His yearning to learn Spanish and fluently communicate with the people of Puerto Rico is more than a linguistic goal; it's a quest to embrace a half of him that remains just out of reach, yet deeply ingrained in his being.
