About the Author

Wladyslaw Ryszard Nowakowski known to his friends and associates as Dick, was born in Poland and immigrated to Australia in 1950. Later he studied photography at RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) in Melbourne. He married in 1956.

During his mid twenties and late forties, Dick, together with his sweetheart and future wife, and a few friends, ventured into skin and SCUBA diving. They spent a lot of their time searching and experimenting in salt water as well as fresh water locations.

In 1964 he accepted the position of Company Photographer with Caterpillar of Australia. His work took him all over Australia and the South Pacific Islands. Dick spent nearly eighteen years
producing visual and often written material for technical publications for his employer.

After resigning in 1981, Dick, together with his wife, opened a commercial photographic studio where he created images for the advertising market. Eleven years later he retired from the "rat race". As from 1992 Dick's creative interest evolved towards oil painting and later to writing.
