Description: National health and safety standards for early care and education programs are presented in this book, a joint collaboration between the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education. The previous edition was published in 2011.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide these national health and safety standards, based on the current evidence, for early care and education programs. The objectives of the book are clearly met.
Audience: The book is directed primarily at individuals/systems who provide care for young children in early child care and education settings. Families, healthcare professionals, licensing professionals/regulators, national private organizations, policymakers, state departments of education, and regulators may find the book useful in evaluating these types of settings/systems. Supported by funding from the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration, and coordinated by the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education, contributors to the book represent the leading experts in early childcare, development, health, and safety.
Features: This is a comprehensive compilation of national health and safety standards for childcare and education programs. A set of guiding principles were used in devising the standards.
