Overview

Chakra Art is a collection of paintings created by River from 2014 to 2019. They portray a sense of continuity in an amazing creative path. Chakra is the Sanskrit for "disc" or "revolution". This describes 7 centers in the body within which energies or "energy centers" transform. This is the subject of these paintings. Chakras are found in Sanatan/Hindu and tantric/yogic traditions and called Ch'i in traditional Chinese medicine. Dynamic interaction of color, shape, stroke, afterimage makes these paintings excellent to ponder while practicing Hatha yoga, Zen Buddhism, Tai Chi, or Qigong. Without knowledge of the Chakra tradition, viewers intuitively find a meditative experience. A remarkable range of works captures visual meditations of universal fragments transforming into unity. Scroll paintings (acrylic on canvas) are the larger works. Works on paper and digital art fill in an enormous depth of discovery. About the Author

River was born in Washington D.C. The family soon moved to Greece where they lived in a suburb of Athens. Demonstrating talent and originality he was encouraged to develop storytelling skills. The family relocated numerous times. Drawings and poetry of new places seemed to help orient and establish a sense of permanence. In the late 1950's and early 60's, the art seemed to take off. "The Work" seemed to become a regular exercise. Painting, songs & poetry became regular activities. Experimentation with block printing introduced the counterpoint of a matrix and original hand. Following his formal education, he lived and worked in Europe and the U.S.A. This produced art, music, and poetry in the United States, England, France, Switzerland, and Greece. His visual artworks include both representational and abstract paintings. Similarly, music and writing formed an eclectic body of work. River continues to be interested in primitive culture and stories about creational myth. A sociological awareness was fostered by his many travels. Ontology continues to influence his art.
