Features: There are several useful introductory chapters on pathophysiology, genesis, and comprehensive management of pain. The types of pain covered are fairly complete, including complex regional pain syndrome, diabetic neuropathic pain, HIV-related pain, and pain in amputations, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis. The book is lacking an overview chapter at the beginning to describe its purpose, its organizing theme, and common issues that link the various pain types and their treatments. As a result, each chapter stands on its own. The chapters are well written, and what they lack in depth, they make up for in ease of reading. Figures and diagrams are plentiful and well done.
