The CLASS Character Education Curriculum is a resource for teaching character in the 7-12 educational setting. The curriculum includes a collection of lessons divided into three modules. Lessons in Module 1 focus on what every student leader with the desire to improve their leadership needs to know including definitions, traits, characteristics of leaders, and what leadership is all about. Module 2 lessons focus on leading peers from a character development perspective. Module 3 lessons focus on maintaining and developing character through the difficult processes of decision making, goal setting and change.
Each module contains lessons and more than 100 suggested activities ready to go for use in the classroom. The lessons are developed as a curriculum for teachers to teach students how to develop character and lead peers in the school setting.
The student centered curriculum is a structured, pragmatic, user friendly guide purposefully organized to teach people how to lead with minor teacher facilitation. The curriculum approaches character and leadership from general self-leadership principles of character and traits of effective leaders to aspects of peer leadership dynamics, goal setting and decision making.
Each lesson includes brief but clear topical information for the facilitator and provides activity and lesson plan options to incorporate as desired. The curriculum is designed to be easily adapted and modified to address timely character or leadership issues and specific needs.
