The Global Chip (GC) once installed augments reality in a way of your personal choosing, and has rendered all forms of external technology obsolete. It has become such a facet of everyday life, that not having one has become illegal. Despite this, the added risks that cyberspace hold have led governments around the world to require all those serving in the military to disconnect during their time. This is where Nathan Ackerman first found himself disconnected, and quickly realized that he would never be able to return to his previous life. On the last day of his service, Nathan went AWOL and disappeared. Since then he has been laying low in the slums of the city trying desperately not to attract the government's attention. That is until he attracts the attention of a savvy gun runner, who intends to use him for a job.
