Description: The book provides a concise and up-to-date review of the most relevant topics in malignant hematology, excluding acute leukemias and high grade lymphomas. It is an excellent general overview, but perhaps does not give enough detail in the treatment section for practicing oncologists.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide novel insights into molecular biology of chronic hematologic neoplasms and discuss potential novel targets for treatment in this new period of antineoplastic pharmacology. These objectives are well met, and the book is an excellent addition in this rapidly changing field.
Audience: The book is intended for all those with an interest in cancer biology and management including practicing hematologists/oncologists, fellows, researchers, and residents. The authors are highly credible authorities in their fields.
Features: The book summarizes well the most recent insights into molecular pathogenesis of chronic hematologic diseases including chronic leukemias, myelo- and lymphoproliferative diseases, lymphomas and multiple myeloma, and their relevance for assessment of prognosis and management decisions. The results of trials evaluating novel targeted therapies are presented, succinctly providing reader with the most current information.
Assessment: This is a very useful book since it covers the most recent achievements and "hot" topics in chronic hematologic diseases in a concise format. The up-to-date information that it provides might not be available in larger textbooks, and thus it is highly recommended for practitioners and researchers.
