Chronicle of the Century

Pop Rocks, Pop Stars, and the Puzzle of the Century!

What lurks in a crate found 100 years too late? The future and past collide when a time capsule is unearthed--along with earth-shattering secrets!

There's something peculiar about the troubled world of 2078--more than just their hydrofruit, holla-grams, ear cams, and traffic bots. In the state of futuristic New England, rain rarely falls and history is taboo, yet a captivating time capsule is displayed during the last week of school. When Lyr and Innie discover a delirious diary in the depths, they're soon immersed in a mystery from a century past, taking them to a place they never expect!

In more ways than one, they're drawn to an era where pizzas are pranked, Star Wars  is new, technology scarce, but the food is plenty and it's not long before they bond with Janet--writer of the teen angst pages. Along for the ride through giddy crushes, ghost selfies, a snarky nemesis, and too many blizzards to count, their laughter and tears share more in common than originally thought. Is a century apart really that different?

But when cryptic clues leap off the doodled paper, the girls begin to wonder... is the relic just full of adolescent gibberish or does it hold the key to a paradox bigger than themselves?

A YA mystery/comedy/light fantasy for teens and a nostalgic trip for adults of all ages

About the Author

In 1978, Chele was 13 and just for fun, wrote the future-meets-retro mystery short, The Diary of Janet Marsh. It was 8th grade and the fads were in. She wore the Dorothy Hamill haircut, gauchos, earth shoes, and the coveted Maybelline Kissing Potion mentioned, just like Janet in her light-fantasy tale.
In 2018, she renovated the story and added the gift of 40 years of technology as well as projecting beyond the future.  Elaborating more details and diary entries, (Often taken from her own silly adolescence) the mystery got a heavier dose of reality with a dab of dystopia-- and voila--it turned into the  Chronicle of the Century!
Contemporary young adult genres come naturally since Chele started writing in her youth and devoured YA mysteries and realistic coming of age by Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary.  Chele has other YA works in the pipeline too, as well as her usual new-adult/adult romance, rom-coms, and mysteries.?
