English novelist and journalist Arthur Morrison (1863-1955) is most recognized for his contributions to the crime novels genre. Morrison, a London native who was born in Poplar, started his career as a writer and spent his whole life working for several publications. Morrison is best known for his book "A Child of the Jago," which vividly depicts the poverty and depravity of London's East End. The book is recognized for its revolutionary depiction of working-class life and is regarded as a masterpiece of social realism. Morrison was a prolific short story writer in addition to his novels.
