Purpose: The purpose is to help students or eye care providers with the fitting, evaluation, and management of all types of contact lens applications and designs. These are very worthy objectives in the constantly changing field of contact lenses. The authors do an outstanding job of incorporating a vast amount of information into a cohesive and easy to use manual.
Audience: This book is appropriately written for eye care practitioners, residents, and students interested in fitting and managing contact lens patients. The authors are all well known authorities in the field, many having academic affiliations.
Features: This clinical manual covers every aspect of contact lens fitting from patient selection, contact lens designs, pre-examination, and the fitting process itself. Sections on specialty fitting topics such as bifocals, astigmatism correction, and keratoconus are also included. The manual is written as a guide so the topics are logically laid out and easy to access. At the conclusion of each chapter, challenging clinical case examples are presented along with a proficiency checklist. Color photos of fitting characteristics would have been more helpful.
Assessment: This is arguably the best chairside clinical manual on the subject of contact lenses available today. Each section or topic is thoroughly described and presented in a logical and easy to read format for the busy practitioner to use in the office. The coverage is complete and detailed yet structured in a concise format making it the perfect reference manual on the subject of contact lenses.
