For prosthodontists and general dentists in a hospital environment who have not had the benefit of formal training in the subspecialty, practitioners and researchers review in detail prosthodontic procedures as they are applied in the maxillofacial situation. They focus on general and specific principles and techniques, rather than presenting numerous case reports, which would be of limited value to general readers. Among the topics are psychological management, reimbursement considerations, vasoalveolar molding in the early management of cleft lip and palate, the clinical management of the dentate maxillectomy patient, and treating upper airway sleep disorder patients with dental devices. One of the highlights of this book is the chapter on treatment of the patient with cleft palate with its excellent clinical photos and prostheses design for early management. The chapter on reimbursement consideration is a valuable guide for the new practitioner to the insurance issue.
Assessment: During the past four decades continuous scientific study of methodology and results of treatment of oncology patients has greatly increased our understanding of the diseases and treatment of facial deformities.
