Description: This book is designed to teach DNP students about research methods for capstone projects. The book features information about clinical research application and development of scholarly capstone projects.
Purpose: The author states "the hope that this text will serve as a guidebook for the nurse who is navigating through that process (DNP education), a compass that will assist in avoiding obstacles, developing realistic timelines, and setting achievable goals." These are worthy objectives, which the book meets.
Audience: The intended audience is students seeking a DNP degree.
Features: The four sections of the book include: preparing for your capstone project, choosing a design for your capstone project, implementing your capstone project, and examples of studies and projects. The sample research studies offer students excellent examples of capstone projects. Another good feature is the comprehensive glossary of research terms.
Assessment: This book is easy to understand and includes features to stimulate critical thinking such as the toolboxes found throughout the chapters. It is a good quality book that would be appropriate for a DNP course on research and/or capstone projects. This second edition contains new materials such as research studies, motivational interviewing, working with a committee and developing a proposal.
