Overview

when i was younger i hated coffee, when i was older i drank more coffee,
it was too bitter and too bland, and it woke me up when it rained,
and it left a taste on my tongue, started making my mornings better,
that i could never understand, and keeping me warm on cold days,

it's not always the sweetest, i love nothing like i love coffee,
the beans aren't always freshly grown, it calms me when there's a storm,
but it's comforting and it's familiar, but something tells me i'm not,
and what used to be too bland, writing about coffee anymore
now tastes like home,

About the Author

Kate Harbaugh (born 2003) wrote "Mushroom Waters" as a high school junior. What started as a school project quickly became a passion for writing, and she later published "Collection and Series" while attending the University of North Florida. In 2022, Kate's poetry was featured in the fall anthology of New Jersey's National Poetry Quarterly.
"Collection and Series" draws inspiration from Erin Hanson's Reverie (The Poetic Underground #1).
