In this day and age, the world is ruled by capitalism, bigotry, hatred, and indifference. Empathy and kindness seemingly appear to be rarer and rarer as the ship of time sails. It is quite bewildering that civil and human rights still have to be fought in this post-civil rights era. The sheer ignorance and hatred of this world have suffocated us while repressing our individual and personal representation. It is repression that has been built out of fear and agony.
But all is not lost yet as there still exists a glimmer of hope. As we march on with our individual and personal struggles, more people come forward to denounce the labels that society has used to strangle them. In that moment, where they come out to the world in their originality, they become the momentary masters of this world. They shed all the scars and stains of fear, trauma, and stigmatization that society had previously put on them.
As the LGBTQIA+ community grows each day, there is an increasing sense of awareness worldwide. This community and movement have shown the world that there is nothing wrong in expressing yourself in your way, to be who you are without any external fear, and most importantly, to accept each other as who we are.
This book revolves around the experiences and struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community that has withstood hatred, bigotry, anger, and, most importantly, violence. It's a journey that drives around the genuine experiences of this community and aims to carry on the baton of discourse around the LGBTQIA+ community.

About the Author

Richard Miller is the author of “Coming Out to a Harsh World." He has always been a keen supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community, even before he announced his own sexuality to the world. Richard had come to terms with his sexuality back when the pride still received bigotry and hatred from society.
Despite knowing his actual sexual orientation, he was forced at the hands of society and the social norms to hide it for years. As this world became increasingly hostile and atrocious for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Richard felt the need to shed an illuminating light on the issues revolving around them through his work: “Coming Out to a Harsh World."

Richard Miller aspires to be an inspiration for young people who are living in fear, hiding their true selves. It pains him to think of those who opted to take their own lives just to be free of the emotional and mental stress they were constantly living in. Sexual minorities faced and continue to face severe acts of hatred worldwide, including imprisonment, blackmail, and sexual assaults. In some countries, they still have no legal recourse for discrimination based on their sexuality and can be subjected to harmful conversion therapies. It was these harsh circumstances in which Richard felt responsible for telling his story to the world. These very circumstances made it a necessity, and Richard took charge to inspire a lot of young people who feel the same as Richard once did.
It took Richard Miller five years before he could come out to the world without fearing the extreme reaction he’d get once he revealed his sexual identity. He felt trapped inside his own body, hiding his afflictions and affections from the world. It was profoundly painful for him to live his life as a mere shadow of his true self.
However, it was only sheer courage and resilience which took Richard this far. It was his own experiences as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community that led him to tell his story to the world and hopefully inspire a score of beautiful souls who also feel trapped, just like he once felt.
With the progression of time and rapid increase in acceptance of sexual minorities as well as acknowledging their rights, it gave Richard some courage to reveal his identity to one of his close friends in 2016.
