Description: This is the third edition of a popular book that explores complexity leadership and the role of advanced practice nurses in healthcare delivery. The second edition was published in 2015. The book includes useful online resources such as PowerPoint presentations for each chapter, classroom and lecture planning resources, and potential web resources.
Purpose: According to the book, the third edition "addresses the leadership roles advanced practice nurses can assume in this new environment." Further, the book "defines the concept of complexity and teaches leadership skills that are best suited for complex adaptive systems" while helping readers "build self-awareness" on ways to lead. In our current healthcare system, resources that assist leaders and future leaders to learn how to be effective change agents are needed in our chaotic world. The format of the book with online resources is an ideal way to present this material for both visual and auditory learners. The book meets its stated intent and goals/objectives.
Audience: This book was written by and for nurses, specifically advanced practice nurses. New to this edition is the addition of a co-author, Beth Boynton, RN, MS, CP. Ms. Boynton is a talented nurse and author with expertise in communication, collaboration, and workplace culture.
