Chapter One
One day Officer Goodnight and his canine, Condor, were invited to Ridgeview Elementary School to give a talk on safety to the children. Officer Goodnight taught the children several safety tips. "Never talk to strangers," he told them, "And always look both ways before you cross the street." He also taught them many more tips that would help them.
Condor showed the children how he searches for illegal drugs and lost items.
Venson and Brandon, two boys who were in the audience during the safety talk, enjoyed hearing about the safety tips they had never heard before.
At the end of his safety talk, Officer Goodnight asked all the children to raise their hand and promise to follow all the safety tips they had heard.
They promised to follow the tips because this would make all of them members of the
"Condor Puppy Patrol".
After school that day, Venson went home and told his mother what he had learned during Officer Goodnight's and Condor's visit.
Venson's mother said, "All of these safety tips are important, and I want you to follow them all.
Venson said, "I promise I'll follow every one of them." He raised his hand as he had done in class earlier that day.
Later in the week, Venson, Brandon, and their friends, Amber and Katie, were all walking home from school together.
When they got to Amber's street, the girls said, "Goodbye. We'll see you at school tomorrow."
