Confessions of a Pharmacist: An Insider's Look at Pharmacy
Confessions of a Pharmacist is, in a sense my autobiography. As such, I have tried to tell the story of my varied career in the field. During my career, I have been a Director of Pharmacy in three hospitals, a Retail Pharmacist, an owner of a pharmacy, a Nuclear Pharmacist, a Floating Pharmacist and I even worked overseas in Saudi Arabia in an attempt to help bring their medical practices into the twentieth century. The book is intended to provide an inside look at the noble profession of pharmacy and I hope that, in writing it, I have helped demystify much of what goes on behind the counter. I believe that, as pharmacists, we make a significant contribution to patient care. Especially in the paradigm introduced by the University of Southern California known as "Clinical Pharmacy" and in which every pharmacy school in the country now educates its pharmacists. Pharmacists have a long way to go. For example, they need to come out of their shells and become better at universally educating patients in how to use medications, thus impacting patient care and helping make it more efficient and better for everyone. I hope the book enlightens and informs you and helps you, as a layperson, understand what really takes place when you entrust us to fill your prescriptions.
