This is the fourth edition of a book on contact lens practice and it includes chapters from the editors and contributors from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. All of the contributors are among the leaders in the field of contact lens practice. The purpose is to present the latest information on clinical practice regarding contact lenses for vision correction, medical management of ocular conditions, and ocular prostheses. This book achieves its purpose very well. The book is targeted particularly for practitioners in training, but it is also quite relevant and helpful as a reference and resource for those already involved in eye care or contact lens practice. The book offers quality color photographs throughout with numerous helpful tables, graphs, and figures. The style of writing makes for an enjoyable read and the material is comprehensive and focused toward the mission of the book. The organization is clear and logical, most relevant references are included, and the appendixes are helpful. An accompanying CD-ROM provides for the possibility of computer-based exercises in contact lens design. While an added value, the text would not suffer significantly had the CD not been included. This book is useful and highly recommended as one of the most up-to-date contact lens texts currently available.

Description: This classic book offers a complete and comprehensive guide to contact lenses. It has gotten even better with this latest and long overdue fifth edition, which replaces the 1997 edition. A CD-ROM is included for additional learning experiences.
Purpose: According to the authors, the purpose is to provide eyecare professionals with a definitive and up-to-date reference on contact lenses. It achieves its goal admirably and has now become more of a practical chair side manual then the previous editions.
Audience: This book is indispensable for all practicing optometrists and ophthalmologists. In addition, it should be in every advanced student must-have collection. Well respected clinicians and prominent leaders in the area of contact lenses author the 33 chapters.
Features: This revised edition builds upon previous editions with its solid foundation in basic contact lens education. Its strength, however, is the comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of everything from contact lens solutions and lens designs to special and obscure uses for contact lenses, all in one book. There is some duplication, but overall the organization is straightforward and the book is easy to read and understand. The color photos and diagrams are superb and unmatched in their pedagogic value. The enclosed CD-ROM expands the learning process by offering various design modules and a useful orthokeratology module.
Assessment: Because contact lens technologies change so quickly, this is a wonderful, must-have book for all busy eyecare practitioners. It is written in a beautiful format that makes reading it both a pleasure and a learning experience.
