Description: This is a comprehensive overview of essential components of acute kidney injury manifestations. It breaks down the pathophysiological aspects of acute tubular necrosis and illustrates nontraditional topics related to acute kidney injuries, such as abdominal compartment syndrome. Dialytic therapies for AKI with no consensus regarding optimal timing to initiate renal replacement therapy are well presented and illustrated with the authors' opinions. It also contains adult and pediatric approaches to acute kidney injury.
Purpose: The purpose is to gather highly informed individuals to give current updates on acute kidney injury. The material is detailed and may sound repetitive to beginners in the field of nephrology. Notwithstanding this shortcoming, the authors researched extensively to ensure all aspects of AKI are fully represented without losing sight of the basic clinical knowledge needed in everyday clinical decision making. The book also creates interest in ultimately establishing preventive and management measures warranted in AKI. Any clinicians who carefully read this book will have the substantial knowledge needed to adequately take care of patients presenting with a myriad of causes of acute kidney injury.
Audience: The target audience encompasses all clinicians who tend to patients with acute kidney injury, and nephrology fellows in training will benefit the most. Critical care clinicians who will encounter patients with AKI in the intensive care unit may find this book informative and resourceful. Nurse practitioners with an advanced interest or nephrology focused practice may use this book to supplement their reading material. Emergency physicians with a special interest in nephrology may also use this book.
