This is an excellent reference for critical care nurses. The book combines theory and pathophysiology content with clinical aspects of critical care nursing. "A strong emphasis is placed on the critical care nurse as part of the healthcare team, as well as providing relevant research-based practical content for the novice and experienced critical care nurse. The broad-based foundation chapters introduce the problems that critical care nurses are faced with in the beginning stages of their career. As the text progresses through each chapter, the content builds to discussing specific disorders or dysfunction as relevant to the chapter content. "The audience for this book is the novice critical care nurse and the experienced nurse. Concepts are discussed in a clear format for both parties. "Key features of this text include the well-developed and outlined tables that highlight various causes, symptoms, and manifestations of various conditions. Drug tables and physical assessment findings are also well outlined in table format. The content is clear and concise, which allows the user to gain critical content quickly. "This book would be an excellent reference for a beginning critical care nurse to add to his or her reference library. I would also recommend it to experienced nurses for current, up-to-date, research-based content and as a quick reference manual.
