On a cold, rainy night in downtown Detroit, after her father was nearly shot to death, Elena Cochran begged him to take his detective job to a safer city; he was all she had left after her mother's death. They ended up in a small town in Georgia because of a secret that Detective Elijah Cochran had been keeping from Elena-that he was working to capture the most wanted drug dealer in North America not only for his crimes but because of a complicated history between the two men. For her protection, Detective Cochran hired the president of a motorcycle club to be Elena's de facto bodyguard. With all he had gone through and seen, Michael "Red" Gilbert believed he was damned to hell and there was no hope for him. He tried to fight his attraction to Elena because he knew she deserved better than a tatted and tattered soul, but she quickly became his light in the darkness. While Red started out as her annoying-but-hot neighbor, Elena couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Red than met the eye.
