Purpose: This is a single-source reference for practitioners at all levels as well as others in the ancillary disciplines. While comprehensive, it focuses on the essence of the diagnostic workup and current treatment modalities.
Audience: The intended audience includes everyone in clinical practice who would benefit from a concise yet complete reference. Potentially this includes attending physicians, house staff in training, and students in many clinical disciplines.
Features: The book covers many topics based on traditional organ systems. Each chapter is divided into specific diagnoses with sections on general considerations, definition and pathogenesis, clinical findings, and differential diagnoses. There are extensive tables and recent literature bibliographies, as well as full-color photographs. The many updated references enable clinicians to research further if they wish. A separate online version, not included in the price of the book, covers additional topics such as integrative medicine, information technology in patient care, and fundamentals of human genetics and genomics.
Assessment: While it is understandable that the volume of information in the online version is extensive and would make the size of the print version unwieldy, not including the online version in the price of the print version detracts from the value of this book.
