Description: Every one of the 149 cutaneous soft tissue tumors discussed in this book has a clinical photo, a discussion of the clinical presentation, treatment, and, of course, a detailed histological description. Excellent color photographs of the histology starting with low magnification and increasing the powers until the cellular detail can be seen at high magnification. The accompanying text expertly points out the characteristic findings one needs to perceive to make the correct diagnosis.
Purpose: The purpose is to educate dermatologists and especially dermatopathologists on how to recognize soft tissue tumors: fibrohistiocytic, neural, vascular, myoepithelial, adipose, etc.
Audience: The audience is dermatopathologists, dermatology residents, and dermatologists.
Features: The authors achieve the correct balance, presenting the clinical and histological findings in a manner that enables readers to connect what they are observing clinically with what they see microscopically. All of the microscopic photos are of excellent quality, and the appropriate stains to perform to identify a tumor correctly are discussed. Access to an ebook version is included with book purchase.
Assessment: Even though I am not a dermatopathologist, I found this book engaging and informative. If more pathology books were of this standard of excellence, I might have decided to be a dermatopathologist instead of a dermatologist. However, you do not need to be a pathologist to appreciate this book. It has educational value for dermatologists and pathologists alike.
