The Barnes & Noble Review
Can Christine Feehan's compelling Dark Carpathian series possibly get any more intense? Good news, readers: The answer is yes. No. 13, Dark Demon, features an unusually powerful and combustible relationship between vampire slayer Natalya Shonski and Carpathian Vikirnoff. She's stalking her prey in the Carpathian Mountains, while he dreams of a perfect lifemate, a yes-woman like June Cleaver. Still, when he gets wounded coming to her aid in a vampire fight, the attraction and action begin.

Natalya is a great heroine: part human, part mage, with the ability to shape-shift into a tigress. There's a plot that goes back centuries and involves hidden memories and family secrets. There's the evolving relationship between Natalya and Vikirnoff, with the adjustment to each other's personalities often comic and always charming. Then there's the action: Natalya in the midst of her fight with clone wolves and smoke warriors is nothing short of spectacular -- and cinematic. Series fans will also appreciate the appendix of Carpathian language, glossary, and healing chants. Ginger Curwen
