Bureau B-issued collaboration with
the Engineers'
Mark Peters continues in the direction of their previous efforts, offering lush downtempo electronic music with waves of atmospheric guitars. This time out, the music edges closer to
Schnauss' work as part of the latter-day incarnation of
Tangerine Dream, which he joined in 2014. "Hindsight Is 2020" combines bubbling synths with ringing guitars and a calmly charging rhythm, and the effect is thoroughly uplifting. "Circular Time"'s synths glide and ripple, as
Peters' guitars seem to imitate orchestral strings. "Speak in Capitals" mixes suspenseful arpeggios with laid-back guitars, and "So Far, the Moment" adds blissful harmonica to a similar formula.
Destiny Waiving is unmistakably a chill-out album, but it's splashed with exciting elements, and it always expresses a feeling of hope. ~ Paul Simpson
